What a weekend for both Seattle sports fans and the nation.
First off, congrats to the Seattle Mariners for a 5 game winning streak on the road. Starting in Detroit, the Mariners swept the Detroit Tigers and almost swept the Red Sox. With this hot streak, and the divisional leaders coming to town this week, I am looking forwarded to heading the stadium and shooting the next few games.
“Steve Zakuani” “Steve Zakuani” were the chants in the 11 minute of the Sounders FC game this past Saturday night as then played against the Toronto FC team here in Seattle. I was fortunate enough to be on assignment for that game and witness the Sounders FC give full support of the popular injured player, #11 Steve Zakuani.
If you don’t know, Zakuani was tackled in retaliation a couple of weeks ago breaking his leg in two places requiring surgery. This result led to one of the leading Sounders FC scorers out for the remainder of the season. In support of Zakuani, the Sounders FC gave all fans entering the stadium a sign with #11. On the 11th minute of the game, everyone held up the sign and chanted “Steve Zakuani” “Steve Zakuani” for several minutes. It was defiantly one of the coolest moments I have witness in my short sports photography career. And to top it all off, the Sounders FC players played to win the game for Zakuani, and they did just that. Final score was 3-0.
And what a way to top off the weekend with the news that the United States finally got Bin Laden!
