July 1, 2009 – Photo of the Day
Happy July everyone. Wow, where have the past couple of months gone? Like yesterday, todays photo of the day also comes from my archive. This photo, like yesterdays was taken during the 2008 XRRA Rock Race held in Moab, UT. This time, the photo is of Brad Lovell, a very good driver and a very nice, outgoing person to talk to.
Well, time to prepare for Alaska, I hope to post some photos of the day while on my trip, but my internet connection is uncertain at this point. Until then, happy 4th of July weekend everyone!

To end the month, I decided to dig into some of my archived photos from the past couple of years. This photo is one of my favorite photos. It is of a good friend, and awesome driver of anything with a motor, Shannon Campbell of Campbell Enterprises. The photo was taken while I was covering the 1st round of the 2008 XRRA Rock Race series in Moab, UT.
Next up for me, I will be leaving early Thursday morning for Ketchikan, AK for a much needed vacation.

June 16, 2009 – Steven Bisig Photography to Donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society®
Seattle / June 16, 2009 - Steven Bisig Photography is proud to announce that all photo sales from Sunday’s (June 21) Race for Life BMX race held at the North SeaTac BMX track in SeaTac, WA will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society®
Within a day or two after the race, the photos will be uploaded to a online gallery where they can be viewed and purchased. A special blog post will be made letting everyone know that the photos are available and a link to the gallery.
For more information about the Race for Life being held this Sunday (June 21), please visit the North SeaTac BMX website at www.seatacbmx.org.
What is the Race For Life?
It all started in 1981 when an avid 12 year old BMX racer from Michigan discovered he had Leukemia. Todd Kingsbury was his name, and like many BMXers, he had dreams of someday becoming a top pro in the sport. Unfortunately, this dreaded disease would keep Todd from fulfilling his dream.
When Todd`s friends and the American Bicycle Association learned of his diagnosis, it was decided that an organized effort should be made to help in Todd`s “Race for Life.” The first ABA “Race for Life” events were formed that year, with over 130 tracks participating and raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® .
Ever since, the ABA has held a series of “Race for Life” events nationwide to help in the fight to find a cure for blood-related cancers. There are awards given to top fund raisers which include t-shirts, jackets and trips to the ABA Grandnationals of BMX.
Of course, the best reward of all is the good feeling of helping others with Leukemia.

June 13, 2009 – Renton Ravens at South King County Colts
After a short couple weeks away from football photography, as of last night I was back. To get back on track, I covered the Renton Ravens game as they took on the South King County Colts at Bonney Lake High School in Bonney Lake, WA.
Both team came into the game with winning records, but only one would walk away with a victory. Both the Colts and the Ravens fought hard both physically and mentally, and in the end the game was only decided by a mere 4 points with the colts being on top with a final score of 12 – 8.
Next game for the Ravens and the next game for me to cover will be on June 20, 2009 as the Ravens take on the Tacoma Warriors on the Ravens home turf at Foster High School in Renton, WA.

May 11, 2009 – Challenges of a Sports Photographer

After finding no receivers open, Ravens QB runs the ball and gains first down
As a professional sports photographer, or even a freelance photographer, you have to deal with whatever conditions are thrown at you and do your best to prevail.
As many of you know, I am the team photographer for the Semi Pro Renton Ravens football team, Saturday May 9th, they battled the Tacoma Invaders. That morning I woke up with a nasty allergy attack and nursed it all day long trying to get clear before making my trip down to Curtis High School in Tacoma, WA to photograph the game. Things got better before I left, but came back during the game. This is one of the worst feelings when trying to cover a game. It makes it very hard to look through the viewfinder and compose a shot when your eyes are watering and itchy.
The next problem us photographers have to deal with is low light shooting. This game did not start until 7 PM Saturday night, and even though the days are getting longer, the stadium lights had to be turned on before the first half was over. My experience with high school stadiums is that the lighting just isn’t good nor is it consistent from school to school.
Because of this poor lighting, I was forced to use the high ISO power of my Nikon D700, which does really good in the situation. Come 3rd quarter I turned my D700 dial to ISO 6400, set the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens to f/2.8 and did the best I could. Results? Because most of the photos, even at these settings were only producing 1/60 – 1/320 of a second, I had to deal with a lot of motion blur, which I am not a real big fan of when it comes to human powered sports. Below are a few examples of high ISO (6400) photos that my Nikon D700 + 70-200 f/2.8 produced.
