All I have to say is “Wow! What an experience!”
This past Sunday (Jan 19th) I entered through the media entrance of CenturyLink stadium prepared (and a little nervous) to photograph one of the biggest events in my short photography career, the NFC Championship game between NFC West rivals, Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.
The nervousness quickly dissipated with the job at hand and the game started. As for my assignment, this game was a little different in two ways. The first, we (USA Today Sports) had a photo editor and memory card runners. This allowed me to continuously shoot the game without worrying about running into the photo room to transmit images. Second, USA Today Sports had flown up two addition photographers so that we had full game coverage. We had a total of 4 photographers, two were assigned to the sidelines and two, including me, were assigned to the end zones. That way we had all four corners covered.
Although I didn’t roam as much as I would normally during a game, I still ended up shooting twice as many photos as I would in a normal game assignment, almost 2600 to be exact.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from the Seattle Seahawks 23-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
My NFL photo assignment on Sunday covering the Seahawks vs Rams game would be special. Not just because if the Seahawks won they would clinch the NFC West Division and clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs, but with a win I would get to photograph at least one and my first NFL playoff game. Well, the Seahawks did work and defeated the St. Louis rams 27-9. So the next NFL game that I photograph will also be the first playoff game for the Seahawks on Saturday Jan 11th vs an opponent yet to be determined.
